SZA has released the video for her long-awaited new song, “Shirt,” which she first teased two years ago. The song, which surfaced in 2020 on Instagram, gained traction on TikTok and became a viral soundbite, spawning a popular dance craze on the platform with fans actually giving the song its name. SZA took to Twitter in January of 2021 to say: “I heard y’all named the Tik Tok song ‘shirt’ lol. I’m fine w that.”
“Shirt” is a prelude to SZA’s highly anticipated sophomore album, the follow-up to her 2017 debut release, ‘Ctrl.’ For the album’s five-year anniversary earlier this year, a Ctrl (Deluxe) was issued featuring seven previously unreleased tracks.
The video for Shirt, directed by Dave Meyers, depicts SZA and actor-musician LaKeith Stanfield on a futuristic ‘Bonnie and Clyde’-type crime spree. Check out the video for Shirt – here.
