Beastie Boys revealed that an intersection in New York City will be renamed ‘Beastie Boys Sqaure’. The official Beastie Boys account posted on X: ‘Good people of New York & beyond! Beastie Boys Square Unveiling Celebration! Saturday September 9th Corner of Ludlow & Rivington Streets Lower East Side NYC 12P-2P’
‘Beastie Boys Square’ will be located in NYC’s intersection of Ludlow and Rivington. The unveiling ceremony is set to be held on September 9th beginning at 12 p.m., with surviving members Mike Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) in attendance at the event. Other festivities set to take place at the ceremony is a DJ set from special guest Jon Bless HiFi System, with other pop-ups dedicated to the trio.
The location of ‘Beastie Boys Square’ at the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington is seen on the album cover of Beastie Boys’ sophomore album, Paul’s Boutique (1989). After the passing of Adam “MCA” Yauch in 2012, fans began a campaign for the intersection to be renamed after the Boys in 2014, and in July 2022 the initiative was granted by the New York City Council.
In addition to the Beastie Boys Square dedication on 9/9, the Apple Original Film Beastie Boys Story, directed by Spike Jonze, will debut at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village with showings on both Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9 at 11:30pm.
