Eight-time Grammy-winner Usher, 45, will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards, set to take place on Sunday, June 30.  The lifetime achievement award recognizes “industry pioneers who have powerfully shifted culture and the entertainment industry,” with previous recipients including Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, Busta Rhymes and Lionel Richie.

According to a press release, the lifetime achievement award salutes “special achievements and distinguished public service” among industry trailblazers “who have powerfully shifted culture and the entertainment industry.” This year, Usher has the pleasure of joining his fellow recipients as BET celebrates his “ever-growing musical legacy.”

Connie Orlando, BET EVP of specials, music programming and music strategy, said: “the relationship between BET and Usher spans decades, from his multiple appearances on 106 & Park, to most recently winning the Entertainer of the Year trophy at the 55th NAACP Image Awards. From his chart-topping hits, electrifying performances and unforgettable vocals to his signature moves and sound, Usher continues to stand on culture, setting new standards for the music industry and Black excellence. We look forward to creating an amazing lineup to pay tribute to our global icon.”

Usher has sold more than 80 million records worldwide over his three-decade career. The singer released his ninth album, Coming Home, ahead of his headlining performance at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show earlier this year. A roster of surprise guests (to be announced at a later date) will take the stage to celebrate music icon, along with previously announced performers including GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey and Victoria Monét.

Usher is also nominated for four BET Awards this year, including album of the year (‘Coming Home’), best male R&B/pop artist and best collaboration and best video (“Good Good” feat. Summer Walker and 21 Savage).
